Alaska Typhoon

Overview

On October 12, 2025, the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta in remote Alaska was struck by the remnants of Typhoon Halong, bringing severe flooding to indigenous communities spread across the vast river delta. The disaster was one of the most destructive in the region since the 1964 Alaska Earthquake, inundating villages that are only accessible by air or river. Critical infrastructure including water treatment systems, fuel storage, and housing was severely damaged. Relief operations faced extreme logistical challenges due to the remote location, requiring air drops and boat-based supply delivery to reach affected communities.
