Overview
On September 30, 2025, the Philippines was struck by a 6.9 magnitude earthquake centered in Northern Cebu, making it the strongest quake ever recorded in that region. The earthquake was followed by thousands of smaller aftershocks that continued for weeks, keeping communities on edge and complicating rescue efforts. Seventy-five people lost their lives and hundreds of homes were destroyed or rendered uninhabitable. Landslides triggered by the quake blocked roads to remote barangays, delaying relief efforts. International organizations mobilized to provide emergency shelter, medical care, and food to affected communities across the Visayas region.
