Overview
On October 7, 2023, Hamas militants launched a large-scale terror attack on Southern Israel, killing more than 1,200 civilians and taking approximately 240 hostages. In retaliation, the Israeli military launched sustained air, sea, and land assaults into Gaza, killing tens of thousands of Palestinians and displacing over 1.7 million people — roughly 80% of Gaza's population. The conflict has caused catastrophic destruction to Gaza's infrastructure, including hospitals, schools, and water systems. A humanitarian crisis of immense proportions has unfolded, with severe shortages of food, water, medicine, and fuel. International relief organizations have struggled to deliver aid due to access restrictions and ongoing hostilities. The crisis has drawn global attention and sparked widespread calls for ceasefire and humanitarian access.
