Overview
On November 3, 2023, a 6.4 magnitude earthquake devastated the remote Jajarkot District in western Nepal, collapsing homes and killing over 150 people. The earthquake struck in the middle of the night when most residents were sleeping, contributing to the high casualty count as mud-brick and stone homes collapsed on sleeping families. Hospitals in the region were quickly overwhelmed with injured survivors. The remote mountainous terrain made access to affected villages extremely challenging, with relief supplies having to be carried by foot or helicopter to the most isolated communities. International organizations provided emergency medical care, shelter, and supplies to the affected population.
