Florida Flooding

Overview

A stalled weather system brought record rainfall to Florida's central and southeast coast from the morning of November 1 through the evening of November 2, 2026. Preliminary National Weather Service totals reached about 24 inches at Malabar and Grant-Valkaria, 22 inches at West Palm Beach and 20.6 inches at Palm Bay, with Melbourne setting an all-time single-day record. The NWS issued a Flash Flood Emergency for West Melbourne, Palm Bay and Grant-Valkaria on November 2.

Palm Bay police confirmed one man died in the flooding. Brevard County deputies, firefighters and wildlife officers helped more than 100 people in rising water, and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission reported more than 60 rescues using airboats, shallow-water boats and a helicopter. Brevard schools closed for two days, Melbourne issued a precautionary boil-water notice, and a Red Cross shelter opened in Cocoa.

Gov. Ron DeSantis signed an executive order on November 2 declaring a state of emergency in Brevard, DeSoto, Hardee, Highlands, Indian River, Martin and St. Lucie Counties. River flooding is forecast to continue: the St. Johns River near Cocoa was above flood stage and could crest near its record around November 5, and the Peace River at Arcadia was forecast to crest well above flood stage. Figures are preliminary, as of November 3, 2026. This follows Hurricane Isaias, which hit Florida in October. We have not yet confirmed any of the organizations we track responding to this event.
