Overview

On January 7, 2025, powerful Santa Ana winds sparked multiple devastating wildfires across Los Angeles County. The Palisades Fire burned 23,448 acres through Pacific Palisades, Malibu, and the Santa Monica Mountains, destroying 6,837 structures. The Eaton Fire burned approximately 14,021 acres in Altadena and Pasadena, destroying 9,418 structures. Together, over 16,000 structures were destroyed, 28 people were killed, and nearly 180,000 residents were ordered to evacuate with another 200,000 under evacuation warnings. Damage estimates exceeded $250 billion. The American Red Cross mobilized nearly 1,900 volunteers, distributed over $51 million in financial assistance, and served more than 188,500 meals. World Central Kitchen served over 1.6 million meals and distributed 235,000 pounds of fresh produce. Team Rubicon deployed to distribute relief supplies at re-entry checkpoints. Recovery efforts continue over a year later.
