Overview
Heavy rain and flash floods swept across several governorates of Syria on October 28–29, 2026, including Raqqa, Deir ez-Zor, Aleppo and Homs. Syria's Emergency and Disaster Management Ministry first reported five deaths, four of them children, with five people missing. Reuters reported on October 30 that the toll had risen to seven dead, five of them children, with seven injured.
Civil Defense teams carried out more than 300 emergency operations in response to over 550 calls for help, rescuing people trapped by floodwater or stranded in vehicles, reopening roads, clearing debris and pumping water from homes, streets and public buildings. Around 375 families were forced to leave displacement camps in Raqqa province.
The floods come five months after the Euphrates River floods that struck the same region in May (Syria Euphrates River Floods). We have not yet confirmed any of the organizations we track responding to this event; the figures above are as of October 30, 2026.
