Overview
On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine, triggering the largest refugee crisis in Europe since World War II. Millions of Ukrainians fled the country, while millions more were internally displaced. Cities across Ukraine suffered devastating bombardment, destroying homes, hospitals, schools, and critical infrastructure. On the second day of the invasion, GEM BStrong arrived in Medyka, Poland, along the Ukrainian-Polish border, offering aid and support to refugees fleeing Ukraine. World Central Kitchen established operations serving over 295 million meals since the start of the conflict. The humanitarian response has been one of the largest and most sustained in modern history, with organizations providing shelter, medical care, food, and psychosocial support across Ukraine and neighboring countries.
